Spots, Scars, and Stretch Marks: Lasers Can Treat Them All

If you’re hoping for perfect skin, the odds are against you. Between acne, weight fluctuations, sun damage, aging, and clumsy accidents, you’re pretty unlikely to make it through life without a couple of skin imperfections. But while some people wear these imperfections with pride, you may be more self-conscious about it.

In the past, there wasn’t much you could do about skin imperfections. You could try to cover them up or draw attention away from them, but in the end, you were mostly stuck with your spots, scars, and stretch marks.

Thankfully, that’s longer the case. Icon™ Aesthetic Treatment is a laser-based treatment technique that can help you permanently correct your skin — which means it may be the answer you’ve been looking for.

Are you ready to finally see that embarrassing scar fade into the past? Dr. James Needell and the rest of our team at Gastonia Wellness & Long Term Care are here to help. We’ll work with you to create a custom treatment plan that gives you the best results possible.

What causes skin imperfections?

Most imperfections are actually caused by your body doing its job. Something happened to hurt your skin — maybe a pustule popped and sent infected tissue into the surrounding area, or your body grew too fast for the skin around it to keep up. To help keep everything healthy, your body sent cells and collagen, a structural protein, to the impacted area to assist with healing. While this almost always works, it’s not a perfect science. Your body sometimes sends too much or too little collagen, which can result in spots, scars, and stretch marks.

What is Icon Aesthetic Treatment?

This unique treatment device is all about fractional laser technology. While it may sound intimidating, fractional laser technology just means that it uses thousands of tiny laser beams to treat a fraction of the skin. These tiny lasers are just enough to slightly injure the skin and kick your body into healing mode. The healing sends fresh cells and collagen to the targeted area. The end result is smooth and clear skin.

The Icon machine has specialized handpieces that focus on specific imperfections. Below are some of the most common areas of treatment:

Icon basics

While helpful, this treatment machine is not a cure-all. Dr. Needell will work with you to ensure that laser treatments are the best course of action. For example, some patients may find that they’re better served by fillers or face lift surgery.

While each treatment course varies, most patients undergo three to seven treatments. How many treatments you need depends on the severity of the imperfections and your body’s response to the treatment itself.

Icon treatments are non-invasive. You may have some redness and mild swelling after a treatment, but you’ll be able to go about your everyday activities immediately afterwards. Also, unlike many light-based treatments, the lasers used in Icon treatments work just as effectively on any skin tone — from very light to very dark.

If you’re bothered by skin imperfections and decide that laser treatment is right for you, then Dr. Needell will make sure you receive the care and results you deserve. Call or send a message to our Gastonia office today.
